Poland’s Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy has presented a preliminary minimum wage level for 2027. This refers to the amount below which, under current rules, wages should not fall.
According to Family Minister Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, the minimum wage in 2027 should not be lower than 4,927 PLN gross. This figure is calculated in line with a legal principle stating that the minimum wage must grow at least at the pace of projected inflation for the following year.
The proposed amount has become part of negotiations between social partners. It is slightly higher than the trade unions’ proposal of around 4,900 PLN, and about 70 PLN higher than employers’ proposal of 4,860.70 PLN. As a result, the ministry’s calculation may serve as a compromise basis for the final decision.
The Polish government is also working on implementing European Union rules regarding the minimum wage mechanism. Under EU regulations, member states should set minimum wages at either at least 60% of the median wage or 50% of the average wage in the country. Currently, the minimum wage in Poland stands at 4,806 PLN gross.
Inflation is also taken into account. If annual inflation exceeds 5%, the minimum wage must be increased twice a year. However, the projected average annual consumer price index for 2027 is around 102.5%, which is below the threshold. This means that in 2027 there will likely be only one minimum wage increase and one adjustment of the hourly rate – effective from January 1, 2027.
