? “Eye for tokens” — a national security threat

China’s Ministry of State Security has issued a warning: collecting biometric data, especially iris scans, is not just a matter of privacy — it’s a national security concern.

Officials cited a foreign project where people receive tokens in exchange for scanning their eyes. Online, few doubt that this refers to Worldcoin, known for its shiny Orb device and WLD token.

What’s wrong with this “tech of the future”?

  • The iris is like a fingerprint — but even more advanced. A unique, lifelong identifier.
  • If leaked — it can’t be changed. You can reset a password, but not your eye.
  • Real risks of identity cloning, hacking, and espionage — like in the movies, but for real.

?️ Chinese authorities strongly advise against giving away your biometric data to just anyone. Especially not for promises of a glowing crypto future. Biometrics are not promo codes to hand out freely.
