Allegro enters the Ukrainian market

One of Europe’s largest e-commerce marketplaces, Allegro, is officially beginning a phased entry into the Ukrainian market. For Ukrainian e-commerce, this could become one of the most significant developments in recent years, as it is not just the launch of a new platform but the arrival of a Central European digital giant often described as Poland’s answer to Amazon, Temu, and eBay combined.

Starting in June 2026, Ukrainian customers will be able to place orders on Allegro with direct delivery from Poland to Ukraine. In the first phase, several hundred Polish sellers will participate, with broader access to international shipping expected later. This marks a cautious but structured expansion into one of the fastest-growing e-commerce markets in Eastern Europe.

At this stage, the model remains cross-border: Ukrainian users will purchase goods from Polish sellers via Allegro International Ukraine. Full localization, including Ukrainian sellers, is expected in 2027 with the launch of Allegro.ua.

The company is deliberately rolling out the expansion in stages to avoid the mistakes of overly aggressive international launches seen in other marketplaces. Instead, Allegro is testing demand, logistics, and user behavior through partner webinars and a limited “friends & family” pilot program.

Nova Post (Nova Poshta) will serve as the key logistics partner, leveraging its expanding European network. This allows Allegro to rely on existing infrastructure rather than building its own delivery system from scratch.

Ukraine is seen by the company as a major market with an estimated 11.5 million active online shoppers. However, competition is already strong.

Allegro’s main competitor is Rozetka, Ukraine’s largest marketplace, which has evolved since 2005 into a full ecosystem with logistics, pickup points, and physical retail stores. Other major players include Epicentr, ALLO, and MAUDAU. The Ukrainian e-commerce market is characterized by strong offline integration, meaning competition will be based not only on price, but also on delivery speed and service quality.

Analysts highlight three key success factors for Allegro: logistics efficiency between Poland and Ukraine, product assortment differentiation, and pricing strategy. Another major challenge is the dominance of low-cost Chinese goods, which already hold a strong position in the market.

Strategic partnerships or even acquisitions of local players cannot be ruled out as a faster path to scaling operations.

Allegro itself is Poland’s leading marketplace, founded in 1999. After its IPO, the company expanded across Central Europe, including the acquisition of Mall Group and the logistics operator WE|DO. Between 2023 and 2026, Allegro streamlined its portfolio and focused on core regional markets, making Ukraine a natural next step.

For Ukrainian consumers, this means broader access to European goods. For the market, it means intensified competition and potential price pressure. Ukrainian e-commerce is entering a new phase where local players are facing a full-scale European digital giant for the first time.

And the key question is no longer whether Allegro will succeed in Ukraine, but how much it will reshape the entire structure of online retail in the region.
