Time to recharge – or robots never get tired

? Great news for anyone afraid that robots might one day get tired and shut down: now they can even change their own batteries.

Chinese engineers have taken autonomy to a new level: robots have learned to remove and install batteries by themselves, without any human assistance.

What happened?

One of China’s leading robotics companies (most often mentioned is Fourier Intelligence) unveiled a robot capable of replacing its own battery. It drives up to a special station and performs the “operation” without any external help.

It’s like a Formula 1 pit stop, only instead of a four-person crew – it’s just one robot and a battery swap station.

How does it work?

  1. The robot detects that the battery is running low.
  2. It drives itself to the nearest charging or swap station.
  3. A robotic system removes the depleted battery.
  4. A fresh battery is installed – and off it goes!

Why is this important?

  • Non-stop operation: these robots can work almost 24/7.
  • Autonomy in logistics and production: ideal for warehouses, factories, airports.
  • Fewer staff required: no need for humans to recharge or service them.

? This is another step toward a fully autonomous robotic economy, where machines maintain themselves without human intervention. A new chapter is beginning – in industry, logistics, and soon enough, in public transport or even home services.
