On a dark-dark street…

?‍♂️ In South Korea, an unusual law enforcement officer has appeared — a life-sized holographic policeman. He patrols at night in Jjudoong Park in Seoul, and his task is simple but striking: to scare potential criminals and prevent minor offenses.

Imagine walking through the park late in the evening, and suddenly a figure appears before you, as if from the future, with a shape shining in the lamplight.

Even the calmest person would probably flinch. Yet locals, judging by comments under the video, react calmly and even positively. They see in this innovation not a frightening effect, but a useful safety measure.

And there’s a reason for that. The park is located next to a busy nightclub, where nighttime walks often end in minor incidents. These are not premeditated crimes, but offenses committed under the influence of alcohol — fights, minor vandalism, thefts.

Here, the hologram can really work. It doesn’t replace a real police officer, but the mere presence of an “invisible” guardian capable of suddenly appearing already psychologically restrains potential offenders. In the future, such technologies could significantly reduce the number of random crimes, improving safety in areas with high nighttime foot traffic.

“We will expand similar AI initiatives to create park environments where people feel safe,” said Chief of the Jungbu Police Station, An Don Hyun.

And who knows — perhaps soon we will get used to city streets being patrolled not only by live police officers but also by their digital doubles.
