Meta has taken a significant strategic step by appointing Dina Powell McCormick as the company’s President and Vice Chair. This appointment is notable not only for the corporation itself but also for the broader tech industry, as it demonstrates Meta’s new approach to political and financial relationships in the United States.

Dina McCormick previously served as Deputy National Security Advisor in Donald Trump’s first administration, giving her unique experience at the intersection of politics, security, and economics. In addition, she spent 16 years in senior leadership positions at Goldman Sachs, focusing on strategic and investment issues on a global scale. This background makes her both a financial expert and an experienced political operator.

Former President Donald Trump has publicly congratulated McCormick, calling her “a fantastically talented individual,” highlighting her influence and weight within the Republican establishment. This move clearly signals that Meta is seeking to strengthen ties with Republican leaders, which could play a key role in the company’s future strategic initiatives.

Why This Matters for Meta

Experts note that, amid the rapid development of artificial intelligence and massive capital investments, Mark Zuckerberg is seeking political and strategic support at the federal level to build energy capacities and infrastructure required for AI projects and data centers. The new company president will be responsible for strategic planning, developing major investment initiatives, and building alliances with political and business entities.

Zuckerberg emphasized:
“Dina’s experience at the highest levels of global finance and politics makes her a unique asset for Meta.”

In 2026, the company plans to spend up to $72 billion in capital expenditures, including building new data centers and scaling computing power for AI projects. McCormick’s appointment is viewed as part of a broader corporate governance reshuffle, aimed at strengthening ties with the Republican establishment. Earlier, the company also appointed C.J. Mahoney, another former Trump advisor, as head of the legal department, signaling a systematic approach to consolidating relationships with the ruling party.

Politics and Regulation

These appointments are accompanied by changes in Meta’s corporate policy:

  • the U.S. fact-checking program has been closed;
  • diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives have been scaled back.

Analysts believe these steps aim to reduce regulatory pressure and improve relations with federal institutions and the U.S. Congress, where Republican influence is growing.

Strategy Shift After the Sandberg Era

Previously, Sheryl Sandberg played a key role in the company, maintaining close ties with the Democratic Party. Under her leadership, Meta focused on a more liberal, “progressive” management style. With McCormick’s appointment, a strategic shift is underway: the company is betting on political balance and engagement with Republicans to secure support during a period of rapid growth and AI implementation.

AI and Meta’s Future

The company seeks to regain leadership in the AI race after the lukewarm reception of the Llama 4 model. Experts expect McCormick to play a key role in forming strategic partnerships with public and private entities, investment alliances, and international networks, all critical for the corporation’s future.

In other words, Dina Powell McCormick’s appointment is not just a personnel decision. It is a strategic move that combines finance, politics, and technological ambition, aimed at ensuring Meta’s long-term competitiveness amid the global AI race, increased regulatory pressure, and the need for massive investments.
