Dyson has introduced an unusual next-generation toothbrush — the Dyson CameraJet™, which can do more than simply clean your teeth: it can literally “see” where plaque is left behind between them.

The toothbrush features a miniature camera with a 100,000-pixel macro lens and a machine-learning system called Gap Optical Targeting™. It scans the mouth at 28 images per second, detects gaps between teeth in real time and directs a precise jet of mouthwash exactly where it is needed. From the moment the camera spots a problem area to the activation of the jet, it takes just around 100 milliseconds.

In other words, you can simply brush your teeth while the toothbrush decides where it needs to do a little extra work. Through the MyDyson app, users can watch the process, receive recommendations, see a map of the areas they have cleaned and find out which spots they regularly miss.

The technology is the result of six years of development. The system runs on approximately 16 million lines of code, while its machine-learning algorithms were trained using 470,000 dental images. Dyson also developed its own plaque model for testing the jet, working on it for five years in collaboration with the Faculty of Dentistry at the National University of Singapore.

Particular attention was paid to the jet itself. Instead of the narrow, traditional “needle-type” stream used by many water flossers, Dyson uses a broad conical jet designed to remove plaque more effectively while being gentler on gums and enamel. The device has a compact 12.5 ml mouthwash tank, enough for a single cleaning session.

But the camera is not the only unusual feature. The toothbrush also uses Variable Sonic Oscillation, a technology that constantly changes the angle of the bristles’ movement. According to Dyson, this helps prevent the bristles from stalling against the tooth surface, particularly in hard-to-reach areas. External testing by the company showed up to 69% more plaque removal than leading premium electric toothbrushes in these difficult areas.

The brush head is also specially designed, with two types of bristles: firmer inner bristles for removing surface stains and softer outer bristles for gentle cleaning along the gumline. Each brush head has an RFID tag that tracks its usage and alerts the user when it needs to be replaced.

Dyson has also developed its own toothpaste for CameraJet, formulated without SLS so that foam does not interfere with the camera’s view, along with a low-foaming mouthwash designed specifically for the precision jet. Both products contain fluoride and are available in several flavours.

The camera does not record or store images either on the toothbrush or in the cloud. It is activated only when the user is viewing the live image in the app or when the automatic gap-detection system is operating.

The complete Dyson Dental System includes the CameraJet toothbrush, charging dock, travel case, specially formulated toothpaste and mouthwash. The docking station also serves as a hygienic storage stand and can refill the toothbrush with mouthwash in just three seconds.

Sales began on September 1, 2026. The complete system costs $499.

It looks like Dyson has finally decided to eliminate the sentence: “You didn’t brush your teeth properly again.” From now on, it won’t be your mum, your dentist or even the mirror pointing it out — it’ll be the toothbrush itself.
