Hackers breached Aeroflot?

✈️ In July 2025, news broke of a massive cyberattack on Russia’s largest airline, Aeroflot. According to preliminary reports, hackers infiltrated the company’s internal systems back in 2024, disguising their presence as legitimate IT activity.

Over the course of a year, the attackers managed to collect vast amounts of data on flight routes, booking systems, and internal security protocols. All signs point to a carefully orchestrated sabotage operation, which could have disrupted airline operations or even compromised flight safety.

The group claiming responsibility – Silent Crow – has previously targeted Russian government agencies, including Rosreestr and Rostelecom. The attack also involved hacktivist groups like “Cyber Partisans.”

We gained access to 122 hypervisors, 43 ZVIRT installations, nearly a hundred iLO interfaces for server management, and 4 Proxmox clusters. As a result, around 7,000 physical and virtual servers were destroyed. The data obtained includes 12TB of databases, 8TB of Windows Share files, and 2TB of corporate emails,” claim the hacktivists.

They say they plan to release some of the stolen data soon – including the records of every Russian citizen who has ever flown with Aeroflot.

We don’t know yet whether this is entirely true, but if it is, the incident shows that modern hackers don’t just strike randomly – they embed themselves, wait patiently, and act when the timing is most devastating.

🔍 That’s why major companies must stay vigilant: regular audits, layered cybersecurity, access controls, and long-term threat preparedness are essential.

P.S. Update two hours after this news was written:

“Aeroflot” has officially confirmed a catastrophic failure in its IT systems. According to the General Prosecutor’s Office, the cause is a hacker attack. The company has completely lost its infrastructure: ticket offices, website, internal services, and computers are down. Air traffic is essentially halted, with over 100 flights canceled. Passengers are stuck in terminals and planes, and staff are unable to help – all processes are paralyzed. The Ministry of Transport said Aeroflot tickets will be reissued for Pobeda and Rossiya flights, but no exact timeline has been provided. A criminal case has been opened.
