In the world of banknotes, there is fashion, prestigious awards, and even a title of “Banknote of the Year.” In 2024, this title was awarded to the 5-dollar note of the Bermuda Islands — unusual, vertical format, printed on durable polymer substrate.
The winner that captivated the jury at first sight
The International Bank Note Society (IBNS) notes that the Bermuda five became an undisputed leader in voting from the very first days. Its design combines pink and purple tones. On the front side — a blue marlin, dolphins, tuna, and the profile of King Charles III. On the back — butterflies, tropical flora, a panorama of Horseshoe Bay, and a boat under the Somerset Bridge.

The banknote was issued by the Bermuda Monetary Authority as part of the campaign “Same look, but more thoughtful design.” It received enhanced security features: instead of watermarks and security threads — a drawing of Argentum tuna, complex Gemini patterns visible under ultraviolet light, and tactile marks for the visually impaired.
