🛢️ Near the Polish port city of Swinoujście, on the island of Wolin, new oil and gas fields have been discovered – potentially among the largest in Europe.
According to the energy company CEP, this is “the largest discovery of conventional oil deposits in Poland’s history.”
What we know:
- Estimated natural gas reserves: around 27 billion cubic meters
- Crude oil reserves: approximately 33 million tonnes
Experts believe this discovery doubles Poland’s currently known reserves
Why it matters:
- Poland is actively working toward energy independence, especially after recent geopolitical shifts
- These new fields could significantly reduce import dependency and strengthen Poland’s position as an energy leader in the region
- If estimates are confirmed, Wolin could become a strategic point on Europe’s energy map
CEP has already begun preliminary evaluations of the scale and quality of the deposits. More details are expected after geological and technical studies are completed.
📌 In the coming years, Poland could not only meet its own energy needs, but also start exporting oil and gas.
