Google has introduced Nano Banana 2 (Gemini 3.1 Flash Image), an updated image generation model within the Gemini ecosystem. The new version replaces the base generator and combines the speed of the Flash line with the advanced intelligence of the Pro version. While the first Nano Banana went viral thanks to its quality and ease of editing, and the Pro version added deeper contextual understanding, the company has now effectively merged both approaches into a single tool.
The main change is the combination of high speed and advanced “world” knowledge. The model leverages Gemini’s expanded data base and, when necessary, relies on web search results, allowing it to more accurately reproduce real-world objects, locations, and contexts.

This is particularly noticeable when creating infographics, charts, and visualizations: the system can transform text notes into structured graphic materials. Text generation within images has also been improved — captions are now readable and clean, and translation and localization directly within the image are supported.
Nano Banana 2 has significantly increased the stability of complex scenes. The model can now maintain the likeness of multiple characters within a single project and accurately render a large number of objects without distorting proportions. This makes the tool suitable for storyboarding, advertising campaigns, and serialized visual content where consistency of imagery is essential. Instruction adherence has also been improved: the system more precisely follows specified composition, lighting, and style parameters without adding unnecessary elements.

Special attention has been given to image quality. The model supports resolutions up to 4K and various aspect ratios — from vertical formats for social media to widescreen displays. Photorealism has improved: lighting appears more natural, textures are deeper, and details are sharper. At the same time, generation speed remains at the Flash level, enabling rapid editing and iteration of ideas without sacrificing visual accuracy.
Nano Banana 2 will be available in Google AI Studio, Vertex AI, and the Flow service, making it a universal tool for both individual users and businesses.

In essence, Google is moving advanced image generation from the category of “capability demonstration” to that of a fully fledged production tool. Visual AI is increasingly less of an experiment and increasingly a standard element of the digital workspace.
