Germany Urges Google and Apple to Remove DeepSeek

📢 In Germany, an official call has been made for tech giants – Google and Apple – to remove the DeepSeek app from their stores. The concern stems from serious fears regarding user data security and violations of privacy regulations.

DeepSeek presents itself as a tool for search and analytics, but German regulators and human rights groups warn that the app may be collecting and processing users’ personal data without clear consent. Particular attention is being paid to its use of facial recognition and behavioral analysis technologies, which may violate the EU’s GDPR data protection laws.

Germany’s data protection authorities have stated that an investigation is underway and that sanctions could be imposed on DeepSeek’s developers if unlawful data practices are confirmed.

Google and Apple have already received formal requests to remove the app from Google Play and the App Store. This is part of a broader initiative to strengthen oversight of applications that could pose risks to user privacy and cybersecurity.

Cybersecurity and digital rights experts shared their insights:

  • Dr. Lena Schmidt, a digital rights expert, stated: “Facial recognition can be a powerful tool, but if misused, it threatens individual freedom. The call to remove DeepSeek is a clear signal to the entire industry about the need to follow ethical standards and legal rules.”
  • Professor Markus Weber, an information security specialist, added: “Users must feel confident that their data is safe and that apps aren’t collecting information without explicit consent. If DeepSeek breaks these principles – its removal is justified.”
  • Christian Kamp, head of a digital rights advocacy group in Germany, emphasized: “We are witnessing a disturbing trend of mass biometric data collection without transparency or control. Removing DeepSeek from app stores is a necessary step to protect citizens from abuse.”
He also warned: “Chinese authorities have broad access rights to personal data within the sphere of national companies” – a fact that raises further concerns about DeepSeek’s origin.

🧑‍💼 Experts stress that such actions are crucial to maintaining the balance between innovation and user rights in the digital world.
