Crypto exchange Binance has reported an increase in fraud cases involving fake SMS messages and phone calls. Scammers impersonate support staff, claim that a user’s account is “at risk,” and try to trick the victim into calling a fake number or clicking on a malicious link.

What is SMS spoofing?
SMS spoofing is a type of fraud where a message appears to come from a familiar service or company. As a result, the victim finds it difficult to distinguish the scam from a legitimate notification, increasing the risk of losing money or personal data.
How it works:
The victim receives an SMS about alleged “suspicious activity” on their account, for example on Binance. The text looks genuine and even appears in the same thread as legitimate messages from the company. This creates a complete illusion of authenticity. The message then asks the user to call a “service number” or follow a link to “secure the account.” Seeing the familiar name, users may follow the instructions without hesitation, not realizing it’s a trap.

Binance reminds users: the company never contacts clients directly via SMS or phone calls. All official notifications are sent only through the official app, email, or internal messages on the Binance website.
How to protect yourself:
- Never click on suspicious links from SMS or calls.
- Never share your passwords, confirmation codes, or two-factor authentication data.
- Always verify the website URL and the source of the message.
- If in doubt, contact Binance only through official channels.

Scammers are becoming more sophisticated, and their goal is to create panic and force users to act without thinking. Vigilance and caution are the best defense against fraud.
