A neural chatbot is not your friend: the illusion of digital empathy.

Why even the smartest bot won’t understand what you’re truly feeling

🤖 In recent months, media have been buzzing about a trend: artificial intelligence allegedly replacing psychologists, therapists, coaches – even friends. They say, “the chatbot is always there,” “won’t judge,” “remembers what you said last time.” Sounds nice. But should we entrust our feelings to a machine? Our editors decided to reflect.

What is “neural support”?

This refers to chatbots and apps trained to engage in emotionally supportive dialogue. They can:

  • suggest breathing exercises
  • ask how your day went
  • remind you that “everything will be okay”
  • even simulate empathy and care

But here’s the problem – it’s not real care. It’s a simulation.

Why AI can’t replace real empathy

1.AI doesn’t feel.
It doesn’t know loss, anxiety, joy, or guilt. It can describe emotions – but not experience them. The words may sound right, but behind them – is emptiness.

2. An algorithm is not a friend.
AI doesn’t care about you as a person. Its goal is to keep the conversation going, not to understand how you truly feel.

3. Generic advice is not support.
“Go outside,” “stay hydrated,” “talk to a loved one” – good tips. But in real crisis, they can sound cold or meaningless.

Why this trend is risky

  • False sense of security. People replace real interaction with chatting to bots – and isolate themselves.
  • Delayed real help. Instead of seeking a specialist, people keep “talking” to an algorithm.
  • Errors and harmful advice. Even top-tier AI can hallucinate answers – some of them dangerous.

Who do you really need when you’re feeling low?

  • A psychologist – if anxiety interferes with life
  • A therapist – if you’re overwhelmed
  • A friend – who just says: “I’m here. Let’s go for a walk.”
  • And sometimes – just a warm tea and quiet. Not from a bot, but from a cup.

✅ Conclusion:

AI is a tool. It can remind you to breathe, suggest meditation, or recommend a podcast. But it cannot replace care or true empathy.

Sometimes you don’t need a solution – you need someone to truly listen. AI can’t do that. But a friend can. Or a therapist. Or you – if you’re kind to yourself.

💬 Remember: not everything that sounds smart is truly helpful.
And your soul is not an API endpoint.
