Robotaxi: Musk said it — so it will be

🤖 Remember when Elon Musk promised back in 2020 that self-driving Tesla taxis would soon hit the roads? Well… he was a bit off on the timing. Happens. 🙂 But, as usual, he wasn’t wrong about the idea. Today, Robotaxis are no longer sci-fi — they’re a real trend, and Musk is once again front and center, “steering without a steering wheel.”

So, what is a Robotaxi? It’s a self-driving taxi with no human driver. Just AI and a ton of sensors. The car analyzes the road, picks the route, brakes, turns, and — best of all — doesn’t ask, “Are you sure you’re going the right way?”

Musk calls the fully autonomous Tesla Robotaxi his “main product of the future.” He promises it will have no steering wheel or pedals, run on a subscription model — like Uber, but without a driver, and cheaper than public transport. (Again — promises, but they sound exciting.)

And the biggest news: the first Tesla Robotaxi is set to be unveiled on August 8, 2025! So very soon, Musk will either show us the future — or explain yet another “slight delay.”

Who else is in the race? While Musk is talking, others are already driving:

  • Waymo (Google’s spin-off) — autonomous minivans are already operating in Phoenix and San Francisco.
  • Cruise (GM) — tested in several U.S. cities, though paused after some incidents.
  • Baidu and AutoX (China) — actively rolling out robotaxis in megacities.

What’s holding it all back? Weather (AI and snowstorms don’t get along), legal gray areas (who’s liable in a crash?), and, well… Musk’s ever-evolving timelines.

🛸 Still, Elon Musk believes autonomous vehicles are the logical next step. And if people once laughed at his crazy ideas — and now ride SpaceX rockets and Teslas — maybe it’s worth waiting again. Just… please don’t say, “Just a couple more weeks…”
