Netflix Movie About a Lost Crypto Wallet Password

Netflix has announced a new film titled “One Attempt Remaining”, based on real-world problems faced by cryptocurrency owners. The story centers on a couple who once won cryptocurrency on a cruise, and years later discovered that their winnings had grown to $35 million. The problem: they forgot the wallet password.

The film promises to be comedic while remaining close to the realities of the crypto world. Netflix announced that one of the lead roles will be played by Hollywood star Jennifer Garner. The plot revolves around a couple who, after divorcing, suddenly learn that the cryptocurrency they won together has become incredibly valuable, but access is locked behind a password.

According to What’s on Netflix, the story will involve a notice from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), giving the characters 48 hours to regain access to the wallet and withdraw $35 million before the claim expires. Judging by the title, the movie appears to be a romantic comedy inspired by real-life crypto headaches, such as the story of Stefan Thomas, former Ripple CTO, who locked himself out of 7,002 Bitcoins, worth about $640 million at the time of reporting.

Thomas forgot the password to his IronKey hard drive, which stored the Bitcoins, and the device erases all data after 10 incorrect attempts. As of December 2025, Thomas had made eight attempts and had not publicly reported whether he regained access.

Similar cases are known in crypto culture. For example, James Howells, a Welsh entrepreneur, lost a drive containing private keys to 8,000 BTC, which ended up in a landfill in the UK in 2013. He spent years trying to obtain permission from local authorities to search the site, but by March 2025 had exhausted nearly all legal avenues.

Although blockchain and cryptocurrencies have increasingly appeared in American culture through movies and TV series over the past 15 years, feature films focused solely on cryptocurrency are rare. Notable exceptions include the 2020 film Money Plane, the 2022 documentary Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King about the QuadrigaCX collapse, and the upcoming Going Infinite, based on the downfall of FTX and its former CEO Sam Bankman-Fried.

Netflix’s movie promises to combine a comedic genre with real crypto-world scenarios, where a forgotten password isn’t just a mistake — it’s millions of dollars at stake.

And, of course, the question remains: what kind of cruises award cryptocurrency? Apparently, these are either promotional campaigns by crypto exchanges or special events for blockchain game and lottery enthusiasts, where prizes are digital assets.
