Bit Gold is a digital money concept created by cryptographer Nick Szabo in the late 1990s – early 2000s. It is considered a “predecessor of Bitcoin.”
The idea was to use cryptographic puzzles (proof-of-work) to create value; store the results in a chain of records to prevent tampering; and create a decentralized system without intermediaries.
The project was never launched “live,” but many ideas from Bit Gold were adopted by Satoshi Nakamoto when creating Bitcoin.
