📈 CEO Canary Capital: Bitcoin could reach $150,000, but a new “bear cycle” lies ahead

Stephen McClurg, CEO of investment firm Canary Capital, made a bold prediction: by the end of 2025, Bitcoin has a 50% chance of reaching the $140,000–$150,000 range. However, according to the expert, this will not mark the start of an endless rally — a new “bear cycle” is likely to follow the rise.

Key growth drivers

According to McClurg, current interest in Bitcoin is fueled by:

  • BTC-based ETFs — they continue to attract billions of dollars, becoming a convenient tool for retail and institutional investors.
  • Institutional buyers — sovereign funds, pension funds, and even corporate treasuries are entering the market. For them, Bitcoin is not just a speculative asset, but a strategic diversification tool.
  • Corporate reserves — more public companies are considering cryptocurrency as protection against inflation and potential debt market risks.

Ethereum under fire

Interestingly, McClurg did not hold back his skepticism about the second-largest cryptocurrency.

He called Ethereum an “outdated network,” adding: “I’m not a big fan of Ethereum simply because it’s old technology. Today, there are many protocols that are faster, cheaper for transactions, and fundamentally safer.”

This statement comes amid ongoing discussions about Ethereum’s scalability and growing competition from new L1 and L2 solutions.

Litecoin as “digital silver”

McClurg also suggested renewed interest in Litecoin, making the traditional comparison: if Bitcoin is “digital gold,” LTC could play the role of “digital silver,” maintaining its appeal through cheaper and faster transactions.

August turbulence

The Canary CEO also warned investors about seasonal August volatility, when crypto markets traditionally become less predictable: trading volumes decline, activity slows, and sharp price movements intensify.

📊 In conclusion, McClurg’s forecast is a double warning: the market does have the potential to reach historic highs, but a cooling phase will almost certainly follow the euphoria.
