🪙 Facts About Precious Metals That Not Everyone Knows

🔶 Gold — the metal where it all began

Gold was the first noble metal that caught human attention. It was easy to find in nature in its pure form — shiny, soft, and easy to work with. No wonder the first jewelry and later money were made from it.

But few know that gold isn’t just the familiar yellow color. Its palette is much broader. The color changes thanks to adding other metals and using complex processing techniques, some of which remain trade secrets to this day.

🔹 There are gold alloys in blue, green, pink, and even brown shades.

Also, there is far less gold on Earth than silver, although gold has always been considered the “highest currency” due to its stable value.

⚪ Silver — nobility with antiseptic powers

Silver was valued not only for its shine but also for its amazing properties.
Noble silver can destroy up to 650 types of bacteria and has strong antiseptic effects. That’s why water and wine were stored in silverware, and silver coins were placed in milk to keep it from souring.

Interestingly, silver can “send signals” about health:
🟣 When immunity drops or illness occurs, silver jewelry can darken — this happens because of reactions with sweat and skin secretions, whose chemical composition changes depending on the body’s condition.

⚫ Platinum — the metal people misunderstood

Today, platinum symbolizes rarity and high status. But when it was first found in America, counterfeiters thought it was just “bad silver.”
They mixed platinum into gold and silver coins to save money. However, such fakes were quickly rejected — and the metal itself wasn’t taken seriously for a long time.

Now it’s quite the opposite: platinum has become a key material in the automotive industry, medicine, and jewelry.

🥄 Metals you can almost taste — literally

Few know that gold and silver are approved for consumption. In the food industry, they are labeled as additives:

  • E174 — silver
  • E175 — gold

They are used to decorate desserts, luxury liquors, and even in pharmaceuticals. Of course, only microscopic amounts — but it’s beautiful and safe.

📌 In conclusion

Precious metals are not just about the price per gram. They are history, science, culture, and even health. And they’re a great reason to learn that everyday things can hide much more than meets the eye.
